Day 8: Ski Antisana
I skied Antisana (5758m/18891ft) in perfect conditions and then ran out 14 miles towards Cotopaxi, the next volcano.
Introduction
Welcome to 1000 Miles South America. My goal is to run 1000 miles on every continent and I started my fourth on May 22, 2026. I’m currently attempting to run from volcano to volcano in Ecuador, skiing each one. Charlie McClung from Seattle is joining me for the first three volcanoes. Follow my blog or Instagram for updates.

The Antisana climb would be just Roberto and I, as Charlie opted to save some cash and sleep in. We woke at midnight and started hiking around 1 am.
Despite feeling weak on all the runs since Cayambe, I miraculously felt better climbing Antisana. I credit Roberto’s cooking with reviving me. I can only eat so much of the junk food we’ve been using for our runs that I usually end up under-fueling.
Can you spot the fox? Hint: look in the very center of the photo.

Practically full moon made climbing in the dark fun
Cool knife’s edge feature near the top. We actually had to turn around soon after this photos, as this never connected to the main summit
fun snow climbing
